A social networking site to put hospital patients in contact with friends and family, a radio station run by and for people with disabilities, and homeless people turning the camera on themselves - these are some of the winners of the latest Inspiring Voices Awards.
Media Trust’s Inspiring Voices awards recognise inspirational examples of communities getting their voices heard through digital media. The awards scheme was launched in November 2010, and gave an opportunity for all the applicants to showcase their work through the website.
Media Trust’s Director of Marketing and Communications Services, Gavin Sheppard, said, “It’s really exciting to see the wealth of digital media work going on in so many communities. These awards help to highlight that excellence as well as providing them with the means to further grow their work and inspire other communities to find their voice and make it heard.”

Netbuddy Co-founder Deborah Gundle said of their award, “We are thrilled to receive this award because it demonstrates just what people can achieve for themselves. We hope it will help us raise Netbuddy’s profile and reach a lot more people who could benefit from the site.”
Each winner will now receive £500, press support around their award and a wealth of communications support.
Inspiring Voices is part of Media Trust’s Community Voices programme funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The Community Voices programme supports disadvantaged and isolated communities making a positive difference to their lives by using creative digital media.
